Quake88 on "WP Super Cache and wp-config.php in 444 permission"

Hello, I always used the permissions on my wp-config.php file in 444 for security reasons (I dont't like to let it writable), but when I installed WP Super Cache I was forced to set it in 644 to enable the caching service. After installation, if i set to 444 again, it displays errors and I am forced to keep it 644 again. Is it ok or this should not happen?
